Week 39 Rotary Minute... Our District Governor's Message:

As we each acknowledge the significance of Easter, according to our own faith and beliefs, I am reminded of the impact Rotarians have on the children of the world through our efforts to fight Polio. As of March 23rd, only seven cases of Wild Polio Virus and three cases of Vaccine-Derived Polio Virus have been reported.

In April, 155 countries and territories will stop using the trivalent oral polio vaccine and switch to the bivalent version of the vaccine. With the eradication of wild poliovirus type 2, the type 2 component of the oral polio vaccine is no longer needed. This is good news for children and the polio eradication program, as the type 2 component of the oral polio vaccine has caused 90 % of the vaccine-derived outbreaks in recent years.

A special reminder from our District Governor:
Dear District Leadership,
A friendly reminder, the deadline for our District's Young Professionals(YP) to submit an application for the YP Summit is April 8th. The summit will be conducted in Atlanta, GA on the campus of Georgia Tech June 10th and 11th.

The event's website can be found at
www.southlandyps.org.  The website describes the event, specifies who is eligible to attend, and provides the application/appointment forms.  I encourage you to disseminate this information any young professional you feel is eligible and encourage them to submit an application. The young professional must submit their own application and video via www.southlandyps.org by April 8th.

You can encourage as many young professionals within your club to apply as you believe are qualified.  Our Zone 33/34 Young Professionals Committee will then select the top three young professionals from our district to attend.  We are looking for the very best young talent in our district.
Between Zone 33/34 and our District, all costs will be covered for those selected.

Once again, for all the summit details, please review
www.southlandyps.org and encourage the young professionals to submit an application.
As always, if you have any questions regarding the opportunity, please let me know.
