Meet and Greet the next Rotary Generation and the
Hottest Initiative in Rotary Membership!
Rotary International has promoted and our Board of Directors has adopted a new membership initiative spearheaded by PP Mike Darragh to inject some young leaders (ages 32 to 45) into our club through what is now known as our Rotary Satellite Club of South Jacksonville.  The concept is similar to a junior membership in our Rotary Club, but the club has much autonomy to meet and run their events separately from our lunch members.

The Satellite Club will offer an alternate way for our lunch members to engage in Rotary by attending evening Satellite meetings.  The attraction for our club is at least two fold: (1) to interact with a younger generation who have established themselves as leaders in their vocation and/or through community service  and (2) to boost our membership and impact in the community. There is a strong belief that this new concept will quickly be adopted by many Rotary clubs and become a dynamic mechanism for membership growth.

Lower dues, meetings in the evening and fewer meetings are an attractive Rotary package for the ten or so applicants we have already. Of course, Satellite members will also enjoy community engagement through projects and speakers, social and business networking, mentoring by our lunch members and their personal professional development.

Satellite meetings will be held the 2nd and 4th Mondays starting in September.  However, the club already has socials on the calendar and a community project on the drawing board.

Don Miss Out!

The next Satellite function is a Meet and Greet,  upstairs at Indochine in San Marco on Monday, June 29 from 5:30 until 7:00pm.  Please attend this event yourself and invite young leaders to attend this social.   Ages 32 to 45 who have demonstrated strong and consistent leadership in the vocation or Community Service Organizations and who want to discover the world of Rotary and its newest initiative.

Last week at Rotary...
Our own Dr. Dan Robie, Chief of Pediatric General Surgery at Baptist Health, provided an interesting and educational talk on the separation of conjoined twins, Carter and Conner.  We want to give a Rotary shout out to the over 200 dedicated physicians, nurses, administrators and staff at Baptist Health that helped to ensure a successful surgery!

Keep Up the Great Work!!

Dr. Robie and his team did an outstanding job

Pierre left us with tearful adieus to return to a huge warm Parisienne "welcome home" and a brand new car!!

A final picture before departure.  We'll miss You!

The Best of Rotary Minute - Week 49

The monthly theme for June is Rotary Fellowships. It is important to note that it is “Fellowships”, with an “s” on the end, and not “Fellowship”. Rotary Fellowships are actual organizational entities; not a general notion of congenial acquaintance as the term “fellowship” might imply . Though they are independent from Rotary International, Rotary Fellowships bring together Rotarians from around the world who share a common interest. As you might expect from a population of 1.3 million Rotarians, there are many varied interests represented in the list of Rotary Fellowships – wine tasting, scuba diving, cooking, cruising, golf, tennis, skiing, yoga, flying, yachting, railroads, magicians and marathon running to name a few. The common bond between all Rotary Fellowships is the opportunity for Rotarians to make lasting friendships outside their own Club, District or country. In doing so Rotarians naturally tend to promote world peace through friendship and by developing a better understanding of one another’s culture. Plus they have a lot of fun and get more enjoyment from the Rotary experience.

You can even start a prospective Rotary Fellowship if your recreational or vocational interest is not in the list of approved Rotary Fellowships. Look into a Rotary Fellowship and make the most of your Rotary membership.

Interested Rotarians can join a Rotary Fellowship by going to:

Event Reminders:

June 26-28: Zone 34 Regional Seminar at the Hyatt Hotel in Jacksonville, Florida. All District and Club leaders are encouraged to attend. Look for more details soon on our District website.

August 15: Mark your calendar to attend the Be a Gift to the World seminar at the Thrasher-Horne Center in Orange Park. This is the seminar where we will cover all of the major Rotary avenues – Foundation, membership, public image and youth services. DGE Fel and his team are already busy putting together a first class program that will enrich your Rotary experience.
