Please Welcome, John Delaney, UNF President

John A. Delaney became the University of North Florida's fifth president in 2003. In that capacity, he oversees a campus of more than 16,000 students, 600 faculty and more than 1,000 staff. The 1,381 acre campus in Northeast Florida is considered a driver in the region, with an annual economic impact of nearly $1 billion. Each year, 4,000 students graduate from the university's six colleges: the Brooks College of Health, the Coggin College of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction, College of Education and Human Services, and the Hicks Honors College.

John A. Delaney’s presidency continues a distinguished career as a public servant. He served two terms as mayor of Jacksonville, the country’s 13th largest city, spearheading major initiatives including The Better Jacksonville Plan, a $2.2 billion improvement plan that gave the city new public facilities and other amenities. He also created the Preservation Project, a massive land conservation program giving Jacksonville the distinction of having the largest urban park system in the United States. Prior to that, he served as the chief assistant state attorney, the number two prosecutor for Northeast Florida and as the general counsel for the City of Jacksonville. He has served on numerous non-profit and corporate boards.
He and his wife Gena have four children and three grandchildren.

** Social Time...Tuesday, December 8 6:00-7:00pm **
Wine and Cheese Social Event at Ameris Bank. Hosted by Meredith Porter at Ameris Bank, 4835 Town Center Parkway, Jacksonville, FL 32246.

Do you recall that in 1905 when Rotary was just beginning, members met at one another's place of business (rotating to a different place each time-thus the term, Rotary). To honor Rotary's original intent, we would like to schedule an after-hours social each month to help everyone get connected with their fellow Rotarians and learn more about their businesses. If you are interested in hosting a social event at your office, please contact Jacqueline Rudloff at

Our District Governor's Message:

Week 22 Rotary Minute

December is Disease Prevention and Treatment month. Rotary’s top priority is the eradication of polio, but disease prevention and treatment take on many forms, from supporting studies to help immunize people, to improving drinking water and the sanitation infrastructure. District Rotarians and clubs are drilling deep wells, designing and building water filtration systems and developing sanitation projects in places such as Nicaragua, Bali, Haiti and many other areas to ensure those communities have clean drinking water and sanitation. Locally, many clubs are tackling a disease affecting so many of their fellow Rotarians, Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, through a Zone 33/34 partnership called CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust).

As we start hosting special holiday meetings or events, if appropriate, consider inviting Interact and Rotaract members to attend. Not only will you be extending a warm Rotary welcome to increasingly vital members of the Family of Rotary, but you’ll also be spicing up your meeting or event for all concerned.
