All About Families!

Jack Fore Dulaney
He is the first grandson for Peter and Bea Fore.  At a healthy 8 pounds 3 ounces he was born on May 4th.   Jack is Peter and Bea's third grandchild.  They also have 2 granddaughters, Olivia Whitmer (8 yrs. old) and Elle Dulaney (4 yrs. old).

Larry and Rose Cavallaro attended the graduation ceremonies for the class of 2013 at The Citadel recently.

Their grandson, USMC 2nd LT, Scott Holmes received his first salute from his proud grandfather, Larry.  Larry is pictured in his Army dress uniform that was standard more than 60 years ago. Scott's parents Gary and Caroline Holmes are pictured below.

The sword pictured is a Marine Corps Officer's Mameluke Sword and Larry is proud to have presented it to his grandson. The distinctive sword traditionally awarded to officers of the U.S. Marine Corps represents one of the most historic events in the early history of this distinguished branch of our Armed Forces and is based on a form of Turkish saber associated with that event. The Marine sword has become known as a Mameluke sword. The name refers primarily to the shape of the hilt that is a form that originated in the Ottoman Empire in about the 17th century.  Scott is off to Flight School next!

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

WE MEET RIVER CITY BREWING COMPANY
Lunch begins at noon - Meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.

Lisa Rinaman, St John's Riverkeeper

The St. Johns Riverkeeper is the chief advocate and public's voice for the St. Johns River.  Responsibilities include: holding regulatory agencies and those polluting the river accountable; identifying and advocating for solutions that will protect and restore the river; working with government entities, businesses, community leaders and citizens to resolve problems that impact the river’s health; and communicating with the media and the public to educate and raise awareness about important river-related issues.

As a former senior staff member for Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton, Lisa Rinaman has extensive experience building consensus around issues and helped implement numerous environmental initiatives and policies. Lisa was instrumental in leading the effort to develop and implement irrigation, fertilizer and Florida Friendly landscaping ordinances to better protect the St. Johns and local waterways. She also played a key role in securing state funding for water quality improvements, organizing the city's successful Manatee Protection Plan, and pushing for programs necessary to fulfill the River Accord restoration plan for the Lower St. Johns River.

Before being named the St. Johns Riverkeeper, Lisa served as a valuable member of the St. Johns Riverkeeper Water Policy Group (WPG), a group that advocates for water conservation and reuse and policies that are more protective of our water resources.

Club Service Project is a Big Hit

The PET (Personal Energy Transportation) workshop in Penny Farms had a lot of workers on Saturday, April 27. South Jax Club Members and their families totaled SEVENTEEN pairs of helping hands cutting, drilling, counting, painting, assembling, and packing the "wheelchairs." Our Orange Park Club (noon) host, Jim Kaelin, kept us busy restocking the various assembly line stops in the workshop...and as icing on the cake, we also assembled and packed two completed devices for shipping!

Thanks to all those who attended:

Lendra Dopazo
Bill Langley
Roy Neal
Travis Peters
Cheryl Robitzsch (and family)
Sandi Christiansen (and family)
Robyn Watson
Dinkins Grange
Bob Massey
Rick Hartley
Alejandro Leon (and family)
James Chansler

Everyone had a great time--and really liked Cheryl's new hair color (PET Blue)...and think that Bob is going to sit soon for his banding machine operator's license!

The Team plans a follow-up PET activity later in the year.
