We will see you in 2016!!

Lunch is served at Noon, Meeting begins at 12:30pm

Please Welcome, Kifimbo Holloway-Parnell
2015 Duval County Teacher of the Year

Kifimbo (Kee-Feem-bow) Holloway Parnell is originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut.  Although a New Englander by birth, she has made Florida a place for academic enrichment and proudly, her home.

She began her teaching career in Dade County.  Her work as an English teacher in Homestead, Florida was highlighted in a former's students essay entitled "Apples of Gold," in which the student credits the then Ms. Holloway for an eye-opening year learning 7th grade English.  This essay would win the young author Khaleah Evelyn, a 4 year college scholarship awarded by former Governor and Presidential hopeful, Jeb Bush.  It also awarded Mrs. Holloway-Parnell recognition from Dade County Public Schools.

Mrs. Holloway Parnell would eventually move to Duval County where she has served Florida State College at Jacksonville as an adjunct professor teaching English to immigrants assimilating into the United States and Kirby Smith Middle School as a Journalism and English Literature Instructor.  Whether she is teaching adults or children, Mrs. Holloway-Parnell encourages her students to obtain an education in order to build a legacy for oneself, one's community, and one's nation.  In her opinion, without a legacy, what remains is the baggage of history.

Kifimbo was named the 2015 Florida Blue Duval County Teacher of the Year at the 24th Annual EDDY Awards. Holloway-Parnell, a language arts teacher at Kirby Smith Middle School, was selected from five outstanding finalists.  She was recognized as an exemplary educator who is continuously exploring new ways to connect her students with new experiences and hands-on projects, helping them use their voices to seek answers about society's imprint in their lives. Her students conducted research at Kingsley Plantation, producing documentaries that led them to compete and defend their research in state-level competitions.

Week 25 Rotary Minute... Our District Governor's Message:

December 13th was Rotary Game Day during the Jaguars vs. Colts football game. To say it was almost a perfect day would be an understatement. Prior to the start of the game, the Jaguars organization presented our district with a check to assist us in our fight toward eradicating Polio. With close to 1000 Rotarians, family members and friends in attendance, the Jaguars took the day with a 51 to 16 win over the Colts. We are still tallying all the information and after the holidays we will announce how much we have raised toward our Polio campaign. Thank you to the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation and to each of you in support of this partnership.

This will be the last Rotary minute of the year given most of our clubs are not meeting the last week of the year. I will resume the Rotary minute the week of January 4th.

Wishing each of you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, a joyous Holiday Season, and a most prosperous and exciting New Year. Regardless of your faith and religious practices may be, you each are a Gift to the World as we continue to Do Good in the World!
