Welcome Mary Anne Jacobs, CEO, Girl Scouts
Mary Anne Jacobs is a lifelong advocate for children’s issues. She has held numerous positions in the Carolina’s and North Florida including an appointment to the South Carolina Governor’s Advisory Council of the Children’s Trust of South Carolina. She held board seats with Parents Against Child Abuse, Parents Anonymous, Youth Corps, South Carolina Area Council Boys and Girls Clubs, and board chair of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands. Jacobs also served as president of the Southeastern Institute for Women in Politics. She is a graduate of the distinguished Riley Institute Diversity Leadership Initiative at Furman University.
After transitioning to the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council as CEO, Mary Anne accepted a volunteer leadership role with the First Coast Girls Initiative. She is a member of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees and is a graduate of the Leadership Jacksonville class of 2015. Jacobs held a position on the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women. She resides in Jacksonville with her husband, Jeff. Mary Anne is a member of the Westside Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Sustaining member.

Oratory Speech Competition Finals - February 18th
The Regional Rotary Oratory Regional Competitions concluded on February 2nd with 5 outstanding competitors looking to take home the title. It was a great presentation by all the speakers but Sean Morrison from Atlantic Coast High School received the Regional Title. Congratulations to Sean. BUT it is not over.... and the BEST is yet to come!

This year's Rotary Oratory Competition included
seniors from public and private high schools throughout the First Coast
to participate in researching, writing and presenting a speech about
Jacksonville’s greatest assets. The Regional winners will compete for the Grand Prize at the final event being held on February 18 at the Adam Herbert UNF Conference Center. Dinner begins at 6 pm; visitors and guests are welcome. There is no charge.

Irish Whiskey, Bourbon and Scotch tasting. Three of each types of the drinks mentioned will be displayed and talked about by the vendors. They will provide homemade chips for the group and we can add additional appetizers.
The cost will range $25-$35 depending on the number of people. We may opt for additional food. The venue will hold 40 comfortably, and we can rearrange if need be.

The Undie Campaign
Dignity U Wear provided brand new clothing to over 200,000 people in need last year. Underwear is the most requested item. To provide more people with basic human dignity and to meet the incredible need, Dignity created The Undie Campaign.
DONATION REQUEST: During the month of February 2016, please bring BRAND NEW socks and underwear to any meeting. We will collect and donate them to Dignity U Wear for those who need them most!
SERVICE EVENT: In addition, we have an opportunity for nine (9) club members to volunteer to sort clothing: Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 9am – 12pm.

Week 31 Rotary Minute... Our District Governor's Message:
February is Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month. Sixty million people are displaced by armed conflict or persecution, and 90 percent of armed-conflict casualties are civilians, half of them children. Through service projects, fellowships, and other Rotary-sponsored campaigns, members train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict, and aid refugees who have fled dangerous areas. Members also pursue projects to address the underlying structural causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.
Many of the Rotarians mentioned are working toward Peace as part of a Rotarian Action Group. A Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as conflict resolution, microcredit or water and sanitation. Group members share their expertise by collaborating with clubs and districts on service projects. There are over 25 different Rotarian Action Groups and a list can be found under the “Take Action” tab on Rotary.org.
