Welcome Rick Marks
Rick Marks is the Vice President for marriage at Live the Life. He earned his PhD in Psychology and Counseling, and Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and an M.A. in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Rick is also a Licensed Professional Counselor. Rick is a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Ministries and a 12 year U.S. Navy veteran. He has served in various capacities from senior manager at private psychiatric hospitals, graduate school professor, pastor of the family ministries of a 28,000 member church, and most recently, a Special Assistant of Healthy Marriage and Fatherhood Initiatives for the Governor of the State of Kansas.
Rick coauthored the book Relationships for Life. The book is much of his thinking about healthy relationships. He is also the founder of HOPE Weekends, a 22 hour intensive marriage education program for distressed marriages. He is also a certified trainer for the relationship skills program, Adventures in Marriage and the premarital program titled; Start Smart.
Rick served as a Commissioner on the Florida Commission on Marriage and Family Support Initiatives from 2003-2007 and has been a keynote and conference speaker in conferences such as Smart Marriages, AACC, North American Conference for Divorced and Separated Catholics, and Association of Marriage and Family Ministries. He has conducted marriage and single adult retreats around the country as well as seminars on leadership and relationship skills in the workplace. Rick has written articles for local publications in the Jacksonville area and has been on national and local radio and television shows such as the 700 Club.

DICTIONARY PROJECT UPDATE
We will be distributing the dictionaries to 3rd graders at seven elementary schools in the area during early December. Please email stevan.jones@amerisbank.com if you are able to help out. The time commitment should be about an hour or so to visit the classrooms and hand out the dictionaries. We’d like to have at least two (2) (preferably several more) Rotarians covering each school.

Rotaract Mentoring Program
PP
Hobart Joost and PP Jay Plotkin along with Will Torres have begun a
program that will partner our members with a Rotaractor in the same
profession. These young professionals are the future of our city and
our businesses. This program offers the opportunity to meet with them
once a month perhaps at lunch or after work (or a time that is mutually
agreed upon) to discuss the issues they are facing as they work their
way through today's corporate environment. If you are interested in
participating in this program, sign up at the next meeting.
Mobile Health Clinic
The Mobile Health Clinic Bus Committee continues to meet and makes progress towards its end goal - of getting a Bloodmobile to Haiti.

The
Family of Rotary celebrates a wedding.
Richard and Melissa Dow celebrated the marriage of their daughter,
Laura, to Kevin Feenstra, son of Scott and Paula Feenstra of Orange Park, FL. The ceremony and dinner took place at the
Winterbourne, an 1870 vintage home on the St. John’s River. The couple will reside in Jacksonville after
a honeymoon cruise in the Caribbean.
Minutarian Minute Week 21
First, congratulations to Brent Coates who was selected last week by our District Nominating Committee to serve as District Governor for the 2017-2018 Rotary year. Brent is a member of the Rotary Club of Palatka Sunrise. He has served in a number of District positions and currently serves as our District’s Sergeant at Arms. He also served as Assistant and Area Governor from July 2011 through June 2014. For those interested in our District’s process for selecting our District Governors, you can find that information in the D6970 Manual of Procedure. The manual can be accessed on the District website under the Goals and Procedures tab at the top of the homepage screen.
This past week several of our District leaders attended the Governor Elect Training Seminar (GETS) and Zone 33/34 Institute in Asheville, North Carolina. It was an inspiring and informative event featuring sessions on membership, the Foundation, New Generations, the End Polio Now campaign and more. As with any event like this, the best part was connecting and networking with our peers from the 28 other districts that make up Zones 33 and 34 – stretching from the Caribbean to West Virginia. Needless to say, there was much to absorb. And yes, we will be bringing back a ton of ideas to share with each Rotarian in District 6970 and a thousand volts of enthusiasm to help us “Light Up Rotary”!
Final word – a big shout-out to all of the volunteers who helped interview our Rotary Youth Exchange outbound applicants in St. Augustine the weekend before last. Your participation is what makes the selection process work as well as it does. Selecting 20 outbound students from the 40+ applicants was not easy, but it is a rewarding experience. So thanks to all who were there to help us make sure we send our best to study abroad in the 2015-2016 school year.
