Rotaract Mentoring Program
PP Hobart Joost and PP Jay Plotkin along with Will Torres have begun a program that will partner our members with a Rotaractor in the same profession.  These young professionals are the future of our city and our businesses.   This program offers the opportunity to meet with them once a month perhaps at lunch or after work (or a time that is mutually agreed upon) to discuss the issues they are facing as they work their way through today's corporate environment.  If you are interested in participating in this program, sign up at the next meeting.

             Mobile Health Clinic

The Blood Alliance has  generously handed the title deed to a retiring mobile bus with a replacement value of $235,000 to the Rotary Club of South Jacksonville's PP Odette Struys -- who has swiftly identified a new home for it with the Boston-based St. Boniface Haiti Foundation. The organization runs a 75-bed hospital with outlying clinics in Southern Haiti for  more than 25 years.

A Mobile Health Clinic Bus Committee has been established to logistically plan the vehicle's passage to Haiti with Deerwood President, Dr. Bill Cody, PP Barry Covington, PP Vicki-Lynn Gloger, Patrick Victor, Christine Goldsmith, Chris Bouton, members from The Blood Alliance that include its CFO, Jack Wolcott and PP Odette, and Sarah, a representative from Rotaract.

A Rotary logo is being planned for the sides of the bus and other areas have been identified for other partners who can help with the logistics of transporting the bus to Haiti.

If anyone would like to get engaged with this exciting project, please reach out to Odette: ostruys@thebloodalliance.org

Minutarian Minute Week 18

On Monday of this week I complete my District Governor club visits. It has been an exhilarating and remarkable experience. The diversity of our clubs in District 6970 is amazingly refreshing. And that is greatly appreciated by this District Governor after making visits to 60 different Rotary Clubs! Each club has its own culture and character – from traditional to very casual – from breakfast to lunch to hors d oeuvres to dinner. And though quite diverse, all of our clubs share Rotary’s common purpose: Joining business and professional leaders; exchanging ideas; and taking action to serve our communities and to do good in the world.

I know it’s not for everyone, but I wish each Rotarian could make the rounds to visit every club in our District. You’d see what incredible acts of kindness and service take place through the good works of the Rotarians in our clubs. You would know with absolute certainty that you are part of one of the greatest service organizations the world has ever seen. And you’d be darn proud to be a Rotarian in District 6970.

I want to take this time to thank all of you for serving – you’re an amazing group of people. Through your efforts I know we will continue to Light Up Rotary in a big, bold and beautiful way!

Event Reminders:

November 15 and 16: We need volunteers to help conduct interviews for the outbound applicants in our Rotary Youth Exchange program. We will be interviewing over 60 applicants to fill 20 slots. So a lot of help will be needed. Please pitch-in to make sure that we select the best representatives from our District to spend the 2015-2016 school year studying abroad. Go to our District website to find out how you can sign-up to help for a half-day, whole day or both days. It’s a very rewarding experience.

May 8-10: Save the dates as we combine our annual District Conference and District Assembly into one big event.

For more on these events please go to www.rotary6970.org on the home page under the District Events column.

Yours in service to Rotary,
Percy
