Sarah A. McLaughlin, MD
Associate Professor of Surgery - Mayo Clinic College of Medicine

Dr. Sarah McLaughlin is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.  She completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City in 2007 and specializes in the treatment of breast cancer at the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville where she serves as a consultant in the Department of Surgery.  She serves as the Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency at the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville which currently trains 3 residents per year for the 5 year residency.  

Her numerous accolades include Faculty Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Faculty at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.  She is a frequent invited lecturer at regional and national meetings to include the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.  

Dr. McLaughlin’s research efforts are focused on breast cancer, lymphedema and issues of survivorship after breast cancer treatment.  She has an active federally funded grant on predicting lymphedema after axillary dissection and it’s effect on quality of life.  She also had active industry and Mayo clinic funded research efforts.  She is the author of 34 peer reviewed articles and 4 book chapters. 

Please welcome her as she provides an overview of the current approach to the treatment of breast cancer.

PET Mobility Project!  The gift of mobility to millions of people in developing countries who are unable to walk!  On Saturday, October 12, 2013, we will be building three-wheeled, hand powered scooters for physically challenged individuals who have lost mobility due to landmine explosions, illness, birth defects, disease or accidents!  Members signed up to volunteer build PET parts on Saturday, October 12th from 9am - 12pm at Penney Farms:

Don't forget to bring in 3 to 5 can goods or non-perishable food items!!!

Thanks to the River City Brewing Company staff for helping us reach our goal!! This week, 112 total items were donated!  Add the new 112 to 95 items already delivered = 207 items and $220 in donations for a total of 427!!!   Exceeding the 300 club goal!

wedding on the edge of a cliff in Uluwatu.  Absolutely stunning location.

Minutarian Update, Week 15
From DG Art:
  1. A few clubs have yet to notify Youth Exchange Chair Jack Murray of their intention to host, Rotary year 2014-15. Please get those forms submitted. To all those clubs that have committed for next year, many thanks.
  2. It’s also time to be considering and submitting nominations for outbound exchange students. Remember, it’s an exchange! We can only send as many kids out, as we host. 
  3. This coming Saturday (Oct 12th) is the annual Interact Summit. If you have questions, please contact Interact Chair Jeri Williar. Time is short!
  4. If your club is considering nominating a member for District Governor, get the nomination into Committee Chair and Past District Governor Brent Williams, as soon as possible. The deadline, is November 1st. 
  5. Have you checked out the Speakers Bureau on the District website in a while? It has grown and is a wonderful list of people willing to speak at your meetings.
