Minutarian Minute Week 15
Next week will be an exciting time in District 6970. Why? Because that is when we start our District’s “Rotary Days” events.

The kick-off event takes place on Monday, October 20th. It’s a noon luncheon in the Grand Ballroom of the Jacksonville Omni Hotel. At this luncheon you will hear from our Rotary International President for 2016-2017, John Germ, who also serves as our International PolioPlus Chair. Joining him at the podium will be Aziz Memon (pronounced:  ah-zeez  may-mahn), a successful entrepreneur and fellow Rotarian who serves as Pakistan’s National PolioPlus Chair. Considering that October 24th is World Polio Day, we are very fortunate to have these two Rotarians speaking to us at this luncheon.

To attend the luncheon, contact our District Executive Secretary, Patti Chapman, at rotaryexecsec@aol.com. You can register individually or Club Presidents can simply contact Patti and let her who from their club will be attending. The cost of the luncheon is $35 per person.

It is not often that we have the opportunity to hear from a Rotary International President. So I really encourage you to be there to show our respect to Rotary International President Nominee John Germ. It will be a powerful and informative program.

We will end our District’s Rotary Days events with another kick-off. Only this kick-off will take place at 1pm on Sunday, October 26th, when the Jacksonville Jaguars take-on the Miami Dolphins at EverBank Field. As you know, the Jaguars have partnered with our Rotary District for over 10 years through a ticket sales program. This program has provided funds not only for our campaign to end polio, but for many individual club projects within our District. Rotary will be recognized at this game during half-time and throughout the whole game on the newly upgraded digital displays featured inside the stadium.

I hope that you will make the effort and take the time to participate in these two big events when we come together as a District to Light Up Rotary!

Information about all events can be found at www.rotary6970.org.

Yours in service to Rotary,

Percy District Governor 2014-2015
Rotary International District 6970

Minutarian Minute Week 14

October is Vocational Service month for the Rotary world. It’s a good reminder that the origin of our Rotary organization was based on the power of good business and professional people to come together to do good in our communities and the world. We do this by becoming acquainted with one another through our weekly Rotary meetings.

In these meetings we fulfill the mission of Rotary by:

1.    Joining business and professional leaders in our community.
2.    Exchanging ideas on how we can best serve.
3.    Taking action on these ideas both locally and globally.

Exactly what Paul Harris had in mind when the “Fab Four” first gathered in a small Chicago office back in 1905.

Is there any better or simpler message that we can share with our New Generations through Rotaract, Interact, Rotary Youth Exchange and RYLA? I don’t think so. Let’s take this message to heart and light up Rotary through young and old by sharing our passion for doing good.

Event Reminders:
•    Saturday, October 11th – The Rotary Leadership Institute will hold its first sessions for the year at the Orange Park Campus of St. Johns River State College; breakfast and lunch included.
•    Monday, October 20th – all Rotarians are invited to a special luncheon at the Jacksonville Omni Hotel to hear the latest update on Rotary’s epic project to end Polio worldwide. The message will be delivered by two outstanding international speakers RI President Nominee John Germ and Pakistan’s National PolioPlus Chair Aziz Memom.
•    Sunday, October 26th – we’ll culminate our District’s Rotary Days events with Rotary Day at EverBank Field when the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Miami Dolphins. Game starts at 1pm.

Information about all events can be found at www.rotary6970.org.

LUNCH BEGINS AT NOON ~ MEETING BEGINS AT 12:30

Welcome  Percy Rosenbloom, Rotary District Governor 2014-2015

Percy serves as President and CEO of SaniGLAZE International, LLC, a position he has held since 2000. SaniGLAZE International (SGI), headquartered in Jacksonville, is the franchisor of a commercial tile and grout restoration and maintenance program. SGI provides technology, products and marketing support to its 100+ SaniGLAZE franchise units located in major metropolitan areas across the U.S. and parts of Canada. Prior to that Percy worked in his family’s janitorial contracting business, Royal Services, Inc., as well as in many of its subsidiary companies.

Percy first became acquainted with Rotary through his father-in-law, Ralph Hoyt, who was and still remains a member of the Rotary Club of Jacksonville. Percy first joined Rotary in 1977 when he was invited to become a member of the Rotary Club of Harriman (TN), where he was working at the time. He and his family moved back to his hometown of Jacksonville in 1978. Shortly thereafter he transferred his membership to the Rotary Club of Jacksonville where he has been a member ever since. He served as club president in 1998-1999; as GSE District Chair 2000-2003; as Area Governor 2005-2008; and on the District Fund and Procedures Committee 2009-2011.

Percy is married to Nancy “Betty” Hoyt Rosenbloom, who is a very strong Rotary advocate and has helped to support Percy in his various roles within Rotary. They have three married children – a daughter and two boys: Christine and Robert Lyons; Hoyt and Holly Rosenbloom; and Carter and Leigh Rosenbloom. They have five grandchildren and another due to arrive in October 2014. Percy and Betty attend Riverside Presbyterian Church where they have both served as deacons and elders.

Percy attended public schools in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. He has an AA degree from Santa Fe Community College. During and following his college years, Percy served in the 146th Signal Battalion of the Florida Army National Guard.

Percy is an active cyclist and participates in charity bike rides, especially those sponsored by our District’s Rotary Clubs. He is also an active scuba diver and enjoys lobster hunting and spear fishing in the Florida Keys. He serves on the Executive Committee of the North Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and is an active supporter of the Florida First Coast YMCA.

Our Club has an opportunity to serve at the Sulzbacher Center.  We are set for Monday October 13th to serve.  If you have students that need community hours, this is an excellent opportunity to get them involved.  Please contact Meredith Porter at Meredith.porter@amerisbank.com to be included!

Minutarian Minute Week 13

Last week’s minute, #12, was supposed to be a recap of the previous three weeks. But due to the timeliness of the call for District Governor nominations last week, the recap for weeks 9, 10, 11 and 12 will be included in this week’s Minute #13.

Recap for week 9: Our District’s two Rotary Days events are now official. First, on Monday, October 20th, all Rotarians are invited to a special luncheon at the Jacksonville Omni Hotel to hear the latest update on Rotary’s epic project to end Polio worldwide. The message will be delivered by two outstanding international speakers. Second, on Sunday, October 26th, we’ll culminate our District’s Rotary Days events at EverBank Field when the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Miami Dolphins.

Recap for week 10: September is New Generations month, referring to the youngest generation in the family of Rotary.  This includes Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE). Others are service-minded young people involved in Rotary club and district activities. We are increasing the number of Rotaract and Interact clubs across the district; and both our RYE and RYLA programs are the envy of the Rotary world. Through New Generations, Rotary in District 6970 is growing younger every day! Reminder there will be a District Interact Summit on October 4th in St. Augustine at the St. Joseph Academy.

Recap for week 11: rotaryroster.org is the place where you can find contact info and photos for every member of your club; and potentially for all of the other clubs in District 6970. Each club needs to find that special Rotarian who has what it takes to be a Rostertarian. The Rostertarian is responsible for entering and updating their club members in rotaryroster.org. Each club that has its members entered into rotaryroster.org on or before 1 December 2014 will be recognized with a special award.

Recap for week 12: Now is the time for each club in our District to nominate that Past President who would make a great District Governor to serve in the 2017-2018 Rotary year. All of the information you need to nominate can be found on our District website, www.rotary6970.org. The deadline for nominations is November 1.

Event Reminders:
*Saturday, October 4th (9:00am to 1:30pm) – 2014 Interact Leadership Summit, which
includes lunch, will take place at St. Joseph Academy, 155 State Road 207, St. Augustine.
Five Interact members per club (especially officers) plus faculty advisor and Rotary Club
sponsor rep.
*Saturday, October 11th – The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will hold its first
sessions for the year at the Orange Park Campus of St. Johns River State College;
breakfast and lunch included.
*Monday, October 20th – all Rotarians in district 6970 are invited to a special luncheon
to hear the latest update on Rotary’s epic project to end Polio worldwide. RI President
Nominee John Germ and Pakistan’s National PolioPlus Chairman Aziz Memon will be
the presenters.
*Sunday, October 26th – Rotary/Jaguar Game Day at EverBank Field in Jacksonville.
