Minutarian Update, Week 50

Rotarians of 6970,

To all those Dads out there, Happy Father's Day!

Many of our members have just returned and are not yet over their jet lag from Sydney. Grab 'em while their groggy and make them the speaker, while the experience is fresh in their minds. I wish every Rotarian could experience an International Convention. However, since that may not happen, allow your club members to share their pictures, the fellowship and the inspiration that is a convention, with you.
I put a test in the Minute last week. I listed the next International Convention as Seoul, followed by Sao Paulo. It's actually reversed, Sao Paulo is in 2015 and Seoul in 2016. I want to thank the hundreds, perhaps thousands of our members that emailed and called me pointing this out. It proves that you do read the Minute! Like I said, 'just testing'.

This week you may see a survey invitation. It may even come from me, but may come from a different member of the governor corp. It is the same survey some received a few weeks ago. If you've already taken it, great, please don't take it again. If you haven't, please fill it out. It is to help us serve you.
There is still time to get those Foundation donations submitted. If you have questions or need help, please reach out to me or anyone in District Leadership for assistance. If they don't know the answer, they know who to ask.

Keep doing those wonderful things you do! Have a great week!

 Minutarian Update, Week 49

Did you know that June is Rotary Fellowship month on the Rotary Calendar? Currently, thousands of Rotarians and their guests, including over 60 from our District are making new friends and sharing fellowship in Sydney, at the International Convention. While we all understand the costs associated with International Conventions can be a bit high, they are well worth it. Often times they are life changing as first timers are exposed to the vastness of Rotary. Next year the convention will be in Sao Paulo, then on to Seoul. Still too far, but mark your calendar now for Atlanta in 2017. It will not only be the site of the convention, but the 100th anniversary celebration of the Foundation, our Rotary Foundation.

Want to share some fellowship and stay even closer to home? Get to know your local Rotaract Club, Interact and Early Act Clubs. Share a project with them. They are always eager to participate in service, and too often we forget to invite them.
The Rotary year is winding down. Please get those Foundation donations submitted. If you are a Paul Harris Society member, don't forget to get your final contributions in as well.
Keep doing those wonderful things you do! Have a great week!

 Minutarian Update, Week 48

This past week we celebrated the chartering of club number 60, Interlachen and Lakes Area. With over 150 people in attendance, representing thirty or more of our Rotary Clubs, it was a great night. PDG John T Capps, from Morehead City, North Carolina was the keynote speaker. John T is a great friend of District 6970. Many of you have wished our new club well and sent in your gift of $50 to get them off the ground. Additionally, a large number of clubs presented their checks to charter president Danny Hemphill at the celebration. I want to personally thank John T, all those in attendance, and all our newest Rotarians in the Interlachen and Lakes Area. As stated, a great night! We welcome you to the greatest organization on the planet. As an added bonus, at the same celebration we welcomed our newest Interact club, Interlachen High.

A few weeks ago, I told you about the Rotary Council on Legislation, and the fact it meets every three years. The next meeting is scheduled for 2016. Please join me in thanking PDG Brent Williams for reconvening our Nominating Committee. Voting members AG Karen Weiss, Vicki-lynne Gloger and PDG Dave Faraldo, selected PDG Cynde Covington as our representative, and PDG Russ Miller the alternate in the event Cynde is unable to attend. Thanks to the committee, and thanks to Cynde and Russ for their willingness to serve.

This Monday is Memorial Day. Please remember those that paid the ultimate price, in service to our country.

Keep doing those wonderful things you do! Have a great week!
