Welcome Julie Shafer, Healthy Living Centers
Julie Schafer is a manager at Baptist Health and oversees the Y
Healthy Living Centers and the Jewish Community Alliance's Wellness Connexion. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Miami University of Ohio in Exercise
Science and Health Studies, and a Master of Public Health degree from
University of North Florida.
Prior to joining the Baptist Health team in
2014, she spent eight years with Brooks Rehabilitation, one of the leading rehabilitation
networks in the U.S. She established an award-winning Stroke Wellness Program
during her tenure at Brooks, which was operational in eight YMCA facilities in
four counties and replicated for persons living with brain injury and
Parkinson’s in Northeast Florida. Julie also has extensive experience in care
coordination initiatives, health education, corporate wellness, and has taught
as an adjunct professor in the Brooks College of Health at University of North
Florida for four years.

Year Up seeks to close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education. We achieve this mission through a one-year, intensive training program that provides low-income young adults, ages 18-24, with a combination of hands-on skill development, college credits, and corporate internships.

The Undie Campaign
Dignity U Wear provided brand new clothing to over 200,000 people in need last year. Underwear is the most requested item. To provide more people with basic human dignity and to meet the incredible need, Dignity created The Undie Campaign.
DONATION REQUEST: During the month of February 2016, please bring BRAND NEW socks and underwear to any meeting. We will collect and donate them to Dignity U Wear for those who need them most!
SERVICE EVENT: In addition, we have an opportunity for nine (9) club members to volunteer to sort clothing: Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 9am – 12pm.

Rotary International General Secretary
John Hewko recently announced a service partnership agreement between Rotary
and Peace Corps to help enhance our club and district service activities locally
and around the world. By working
together with active and returned Peace Corps Volunteers, we can continue
addressing Rotary’s six areas of focus while enhancing goodwill, international
understanding, and building capacity to address the most pressing community
concerns. More information can be found under our district website’s
“Opportunity Center.”
Rotary
Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) will take place again this year
on the University of North
Florida’s Campus. The event will be held from June 16th through June
19th. Make sure your
club sponsors at least one, and preferably two, aspiring high school leaders
who will be entering
their junior or senior year at the start of the 2016-2017 school year. Pledge commitments
from clubs are due on January 30th.
