Hail and Farewell - June 23, 2015
Rotary Minute- Week 52
Week 52. Rotary Minute for week beginning June 29, 2015.
The day has come; Weekly Minute #52 has arrived. Writing the Weekly Minute has been challenging, rewarding, interesting and even fun for me. Informing Rotarians about events and happenings outside of their clubs is an important responsibility of the District Governor. And inspiring Rotarians to engage in the Rotary way of life is an even more important responsibility. Each Weekly Minute was an attempt to do just that – inform and inspire.
What a treat it has been to serve as District 6970’s Governor. Getting to visit the communities, nooks and crannies that make up Florida’s Crown District; getting to meet so many delightful and interesting Rotarians in the 61 Rotary Clubs that form District 6970; and getting to serve alongside the amazing club and district leaders whose passion for service make our District one of the very best in the Rotary world – all of this adds up to a year that I will treasure forever.
And now it’s time to turn the helm over to DGE Fel. On July 1 his title loses an “E” and mine gains a “P”! I know for certain that DGE Fel is prepared and ready to go. Plus DGN Marshall and DGND Brent are busy ramping up for their years. If all of you will support Fel, Marshall and Brent the same way you’ve supported me, we will enjoy years of smooth sailing ahead. So keep up the good work District 6970 – you are now and will remain the very BEST!
EVENTS:
August 1: Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will take place at the Daytona State College Palm Coast Campus. RLI District Chair Charles Allen and his team have been planning another outstanding RLI program to help you get the most from membership in Rotary. And you will really enjoy the new venue as the DSC Palm Coast Campus rolls out the red carpet for the Rotarians in District 6970.
August 1: Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) “Welcome Home Dinner”. This is an inspiring “feel good” event where you’ll hear from the high school students themselves about the impact this outstanding Youth Services program has had on their lives after a year of study and living in another country. Reservations are available on the www.ryeflorida.org website under About RYE Florida.. click on District 6970.
August 15: Mark your calendar to attend the Be a Gift to the World seminar at the Thrasher-Horne Center in Orange Park. Hear about all Rotary’s avenues. DGE Fel and his team are already busy putting together a first class program that will enrich your Rotary experience.
