Rotary in Action!
Polio Free!!!
The World Health Organization announced on September 25, 2015, that Nigeria is no longer polio endemic. This is the first time that Nigeria has interrupted transmission of wild poliovirus, bringing the country and the African region closer than ever to being certified polio-free.
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), the public-private partnership leading the effort to eradicate polio, called this a 'historic achievement' in global health. Nigeria has not reported a case of wild poliovirus since 24 July 2014, and all laboratory data have confirmed a full 12 months have passed without any new cases.
Eradicating polio will be one of the greatest achievements in human history, and have a positive impact on global health for generations to come. Nigeria has brought the world one major step closer to achieving this goal and it’s critical that we seize this opportunity to end polio for good and ensure future generations of children are free from this devastating disease.
Last Week's Speaker - District Governor Fel Lee!
Highlights from DG Fel's address to our club:
DG Fel Lee had an intimate discussion with our Club touching on major Rotary points from friendship and fellowship to giving.
When we meet each week, we don't just network and socialize, we "do" great work. He shared how we are a tremendous asset in our community, and how we have awesome partners, like the Jaguars, who recognize our strength in numbers, strength in direction and strength in brand.
DG Fel challenges us all to protect and promote the Rotary brand - let's keep our lapel pins polished and avoid tarnishing in every sense of Rotary! Among other things, as Rotarians, we need to maximize our gifts, talents, knowlegde and efforts.
Be engaged as Rotarians and the leaders we are by exchanging ideas by joining, and taking action! We can all...
"Be a gift to the world!"
