Rotaract Mentoring Program
PP Hobart Joost and PP Jay Plotkin along with Will Torres have begun a program that will partner our members with a Rotaractor in the same profession.  These young professionals are the future of our city and our businesses.   This program offers the opportunity to meet with them once a month perhaps at lunch or after work (or a time that is mutually agreed upon) to discuss the issues they are facing as they work their way through today's corporate environment.  If you are interested in participating in this program, sign up at the next meeting.

Minutarian Minute Week 17
Trick or treat came early here in District 6970. And it was definitely a treat when the Rotary Club of Jacksonville hosted our District Days event on Monday, October 20th, at the Omni Hotel. We don’t have the official count yet, but Rotarians from practically every club in our District were there to hear Rotary International President-Elect Nominee, John Germ, and Pakistan’s National PolioPlus Chair, Aziz Memon present the latest updates from the Rotary International PolioPlus Committee. The event was capped-off when our District Rotary Foundation Chair, PDG Cynde, presented a $20,000 check from our District’s global grant funds to John and Aziz toward the End Polio Now campaign –  $10,000 for each presenter . There will be a video available soon thanks to RC Amelia Island Rotarian Stan Cottle. Stay tuned for more details on that.

And now for the big announcement of the week! Working closely with DGE Fel and DGN Marshall, we have decided to combine our District Conference and District Assembly into one really awesome weekend event. So mark your calendars now for May 8-10, 2015. And be on the lookout for an announcement with more details. It will be coming your way soon. And here’s a hint: It will be from the PoncĂ© de PercĂ©.

Event Reminders:

November 1: Deadline for the submission of District Governor nominations to serve during the 2017-2018 Rotary year.

November 15 and 16: We need volunteers to help conduct interviews for the outbound applicants in our Rotary Youth Exchange program. We will be interviewing over 60 applicants to fill 17 slots. So a lot of help will be needed. Please pitch-in to make sure that we select the best representatives from our District to spend the 2015-2016 school year studying abroad. Go to our District website to find out how you can sign-up to help for a half-day, whole day or both days. It’s a very rewarding experience.

Details and instructions for these events can be found on www.rotary6970.org on the home page under the District Events column.

Yours in service to Rotary,
Percy

Photos From Recent Rotary District Meeting

The recent Rotary District meeting held at the Omni last Monday, 10/20, with all area Rotary Clubs featured an iron lung that has helped save lives afflicted with Polio, to a global update with a hopeful end-date in sight to eradicate the disease by December 2018, to the tune of a total of $5.5B! It was also announced that Jaguars owner Shad Khan is the first and only NFL celebrity to join the "We are this close..." worldwide Polio ad campaign. Wayne and Delores Weaver were also honored for their personal donations to Rotary and for their collaborative efforts with Rotary District Clubs in recognizing Rotary at one Jaguars home game each season, which Shad Khan has pledged to continue.

Rotary International's President-Elect, John Germ, was also on hand to offer his congratulations, with former DG Cynde Covington, to our District 6970 for raising more than $4M towards End Polio Now. It was also noted that North  Floridians are extremely generous - making our region the 6th most giving place to live in America!
