Meet Bill Mason
President
Emeritus & Member of the Board of
Baptist Health
Our speaker on Tuesday, June 19th, is William C. (Bill) Mason, President
Emeritus and Member of the Board of
Baptist Health. Mr. Mason has enjoyed a long career in hospital
administration both at home and abroad. He began his career as a Foreign
Service Officer in the US State Department serving as an Officer in the US
Agency for International Development building hospitals and medical schools
through the American Embassies in several nations, including one three year
tour at the US Embassy in Saigon from 1966 through 1969. He also served a four
year term as CEO of the Baptist Medical Centers in Kenya and Tanzania, East
Africa and another four year term as the CEO of the new Baptist Medical Center
in Bangalore, India. Mr. Mason began his Jacksonville responsibilities at
Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville in 1978.
Mr. Mason
has had an active life of public service in Jacksonville, having served as
Board Chairman of several organizations including the Jacksonville Chamber of
Commerce, the Jacksonville Port Authority, the Jacksonville Community Council
(JCCI), the Baptist/St. Vincent’s Health System, the Board of Deacons at the
Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, and Treasurer of the Jacksonville Children’s
Commission. He has been the recipient of awards for his community service
including the Humanitarian Award of One Jax, the Distinguished Business
Leader/Prime Osborne Award of the UNF College of Business and the Lifetime
Achievement Award of the Jacksonville Business Journal. Bill is the incoming
President Elect of the Downtown Rotary Club.

and his wife Julie reside on Greenridge Road in San Marco in the home built in
1938 by our own Ken Guernsey, President of Rotary International in 1947-48.
Paul Harris also slept there when visiting the Guernseys in Jacksonville.

regarding the old courthouse. "Everybody thought it was so modern, and it
was modern. I mean, terrazzo floors compared to the other courthouse".
