Please Welcome Lisa Rinaman - St. Johns Riverkeeper
The St. Johns Riverkeeper is the chief advocate and public’s voice for the St. Johns River. Responsibilities include: holding regulatory agencies and those polluting the river accountable; identifying and advocating for solutions that will protect and restore the river; working with government entities, businesses, community leaders and citizens to resolve problems that impact the river’s health; and communicating with the media and the public to educate and raise awareness about important river-related issues.
As a former senior staff member for Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton, Lisa Rinaman has extensive experience building consensus around issues and helped implement numerous environmental initiatives and policies. Lisa was instrumental in leading the effort to develop and implement irrigation, fertilizer and Florida Friendly landscaping ordinances to better protect the St. Johns and local waterways. She also played a key role in securing state funding for water quality improvements, organizing the city’s successful Manatee Protection Plan, and pushing for programs necessary to fulfill the River Accord restoration plan for the Lower St. Johns River.
Before being named the St. Johns Riverkeeper, Lisa served as a valuable member of the St. Johns Riverkeeper Water Policy Group (WPG), a group that advocates for water conservation and reuse and policies that are more protective of our water resources.

PP Hobart Joost and PP Jay Plotkin along with Will Torres have begun a program that will partner our members with a Rotaractor in the same profession. These young professionals are the future of our city and our businesses. This program offers the opportunity to meet with them once a month perhaps at lunch or after work (or a time that is mutually agreed upon) to discuss the issues they are facing as they work their way through today's corporate environment. If you are interested in participating in this program, sign up at the next meeting.

Rotaract
is involved in the PurpleStride 2014, a 5K run/walk hosted by the
Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Please join their team and help
support finding a cure for pancreatic cancer. The event will be held on Saturday, September 27th at 8:30AM EDT at the Jacksonville Beach Seawalk Pavillion (75 North 1st St., Jax Beach, FL 32250).

Where do District Governors come from? Despite what devious and sarcastic thoughts you may be harboring, they all start out as Rotary Club members, who at some point in their Rotary journey agreed to serve as club President.
Moreover, they ventured outside of their clubs to do things like:
Attend District Assemblies and Conferences
Serve on District committees
Serve as Assistant and Area Governors
And maybe even attend a Rotary International Convention or two
But most importantly, in order to even be considered for District Governor, they had to be nominated by their club. And now is the time for each club in our District to be thinking about that Past President who would make a great District Governor.
Please do your part for District 6970 and give serious thought to active Past Presidents in your club to serve as District Governor for the 2017-2018 Rotary year. All of the information you need to nominate can be found on our incredible District website, www.rotarydistrict6970.org. Look under District Events and scroll down to “Deadline November 1 – District Gov. Nominations”. Best to get those nominations in well before the deadline.

*Saturday, October 4th (9:00am to 1:30pm) – 2014 Interact Leadership Summit, which includes lunch, will take place at St. Joseph Academy, 155 State Road 207, St. Augustine. Five Interact members per club (especially officers) plus faculty advisor and Rotary Club sponsor rep.
*Saturday, October 11th – The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will hold its first sessions for the year at the Orange Park Campus of St. Johns River State College; breakfast and lunch included.
*Monday, October 20th – all Rotarians in district 6970 are invited to a special luncheon to hear the latest update on Rotary’s epic project to end Polio worldwide. RI President Nominee John Germ and Pakistan’s National PolioPlus Chairman Aziz Memon will be the presenters.
*Sunday, October 26th – Rotary/Jaguar Game Day at EverBank Field in Jacksonville.
